Revolutions

Revolutions is Jarre's ninth studio album and his broadest in range — moving from symphonic industrial through Arabic-flavoured EBM to guitar pop and ethnic electro jazz across a single record.

The opening "Industrial Revolution" suite gives the album its spine, and Hank Marvin of The Shadows plays on "London Kid", a piece about the Britain Jarre grew up listening to. Underneath it all sits the Roland D-50, which Jarre called the anti-DX7 for its warmth, and which he used largely on its factory presets — a choice he defended on the grounds that you don't try to twist the sound of a piano or a clarinet, you just play it.

The title track exists in two forms, and which one you have depends on which pressing you own. The later version, "Revolution, Revolutions", replaces the sampled ney flute of the original with an Arabic vocal and orchestra.
